Abuse of minors spurs Dominican-Poland legal cooperation (Update)

Santo Domingo.- (Update) Polish prosecutor general Andrzej Seremet announced payment of 40,000 euros in damages to each of the victims –at least seven- of Wodjiech Gil’s victims.

FILE. Dominican Republic Justice ministries Francisco Dominguez and Poland counterpart Andrzej Seremet on Tuesday signed a legal cooperation agreement aimed at bolstering human rights and the war on crime.

The agreement stresses respect for national legislation with international commitments by the two countries, whose authorities will host meetings and talks to exchange experiences and deal with issues of joint interest.

The two institutions will make the necessary arrangements stipulated in the context of criminal proceedings considered priority, to provide legal assistance to the parties, by email or fax and must ensure simultaneous transmission via diplomatic channels, said the document.

Seremet is in the country as part of the investigation into the sexual abuse of several minors by Polish priest Wodjiech Gil, in Juncalito, Santiago province.
