Doctors announce 48 hour walkout, demand hospital fixes

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Medical Association (CMD) on Wednesday announced a 48 hour walkout in all hospitals across the country to demand solutions to the calamity and shortcomings they affirm plague the health centers, especially the Northwest.

CMD president Pedro Sing made the announcement of the strike set for tomorrow and Friday, and said its affiliates would provide emergency services only.

He said since three months ago health professionals in the Northwest still wait for the authorities to solve the lack of specialists and what he describes as deteriorated areas of surgery, childbirth, orthopedics, hospitalization and consultation.

He also demanded the renovation of other hospitals in the region “which seem endless and many of them are paralyzed.”

He said there’s low investment in the health sector nearly everywhere in the country and urged president Danilo Medina to look into the current indicators to see the conditions of the hospitals , as he has done with other facilities.
