Haiti, Dominican officials coordinate deportations

Santo Domingo.- Haiti Foreign Affairs minister Lener Renauld on Thursday said his government coordinates logistics for its citizens when they’re repatriated once the deadline in the Plan to Regularize Foreigners expirees.

Renauld presented to Dominican counterpart Andres Navarro several proposals for criteria for Dominican Republic to consider in the protocol aimed at making repatriations easier, with logistics in place to receive deportees in their territory.

"Some criteria for deportations have been suggested to coordinate the reception of their citizens, such as points and departure times," Navarro said.

Renauld also confirmed the information in a televised interview, as part of the meeting of the Haiti-DR bilateral commission.

Navarro said the government is prepared to explain abroad what Dominican Republic has done to defend human rights and benefit immigrants, “while enforcing our laws.”
