Lawmaker denies bribes in the President’s reelection push

Santo Domingo.- The Lower Chamber spokesman for Dominican Republic’s ruling party (PLD) on Wednesday denied bribes given to lawmakers in exchange for their vote for a constitutional amendment which paves the way for president Danilo Medina’s reelection bid.

Ruben Maldonado said "it’s unreal, they haven’t done so with me… I have never been called or contacted by any official or anybody."

"Whoever did it will have to answer to me," he said and stressed that they’ve never held any meeting to make such a proposal to Congress. "Those who know me know they cannot talk to me in those terms and about those things."

He said he doesn’t know who’s Gregory Castellanos and hasn’t seen "those officials" for five months.

Maldonado, interviewed on Z101FM denied having signed an alleged complaint filed in the Supreme Court on Tuesday on bribery to lawmakers in exchange for voting for a constitutional amendment.
