Dominican Republic’s military readies ‘interdiction’ of illegal aliens

Santo Domingo.- Dominican Republic’s Defense Ministry on Monday instructed the various military branches and specialized agencies to heighten security controls to halt the entry of undocumented foreigners into the country.

The measure comes one day before the deadline in the government’s program to regularize foreigners expires, and the foreigners who haven’t registered risk deportation.

Defense said it will coordinate with the Immigration Agency the "interdiction" of people in an irregular status, once the deadline expires.

Defense minister Maximo W. Muñoz instructed commanders of the Army, Air Force and Navy, as well as the heads of Border Security (Cesfront), Port Security (CESEP), Airport Security (CESAC) and Civil Aviation who’ll work in the operations to respect human rights.
