Top Dominican diplomat defends migrant policy at UN

New York.- Foreign Affairs minister Andres Navarro assuredUN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon the respect of human rights of the tens of thousandsof foreigners who live in the Dominican Republic.

According to the ForeignMinistry, Navarro told Ban that more than 288,000 foreigners have legalized theirimmigration status through the government´s regularization plan.

He said DominicanRepublic´s new immigration policy is unprecedented in the Latin American regionand reveals the government´s commitment to democracy, transparency and dialogue."We cannot allow under any circumstance attempts to violate our constitutionalorder and harm the country’s image with unfounded allegations."
