US probes Dominican military for gun smuggling: Acento

Santo Domingo.- Ageneral and a colonel of Dominican Republic´s military are the target of a probeled by the US Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) andDominican authorities, a case of international gun trafficking.

Acento.com.do reportsthat the US agency alerted the Interior and Police Ministry over alleged weaponstrafficking from that country to the Dominican Republic, and provided a list allegedlysmuggled weapons as evidence.

Quoting unnamed militaryofficers, the outlet said senior officials from the Defense, Interior andPolice, and Justice ministries have interrogated Air Force general Cordero Batistaand Army colonel Manuel Guzman, into the alleged transfer of weapons from theUS.

Cordero headed the ArmedForces Military Equipment Dept. in 2013 while Guzman owns a gun and ammo store inSantiago.

According toAcentol.com.do, investigators accuse Cordero of helping Guzman legalize the allegedlysmuggled weapons.
