Heroes´ daughter launches presidency bid in Dominican Republic

Santo Domingo.- Independent deputy Minerva (Minou) Tavarez on Sundaylaunched country their aspirations for the presidential nomination of the movementDemocratic Choice which debuted yesterday.

Tavarez, daughter ofthe late national heroes Manolo Tavarez Justo and Minerva Mirabal, broke fromthe ruling PLD party last year inprotest of rampant corruption during the administrations headed by LeonelFernandez and Danilo Medina.

In her introductoryspeech Tavarez said next to her are men and women willing to work for a truedemocracy, where ther´ll be no impunity and corruption.

She called on societyto address the perverse pacts of "evil forces" that seek to continuegoverning, and to define a definitive transition toward a new DominicanRepublic based on truly democratic principles. "Democratic Choice expectsto overcome the old and repeated attempts to keep doing the same" and puta stop to the "old acquaintances of corruption and fraud."

As part of the event Tavarezintroduced the party´s vice president, the industrialist Victor Castro; women´s rights activist Sergia Galvan as general secretary and collaborators including Josefina Almánzar, Segismundo López,Braulio Peralta, Andrés Fortunato, Veronica Gomez and ManuelBonilla, among others.
