Approaching Erika to affect North Coast

Santo Domingo.- The National Meteorological Office (Onamet)issued a tropical storm alert for Erika whose possible track will pass close tothe country’s north coast tomorrow Friday. Onamet says that the main effectswill be unusually strong wave activity and wind gusts, especially over thenortheast of the country.

Onamet said that it is monitoring the storm’sdevelopment and path. Erika was located 300 km east of Antigua (Leeward Islands)with maximum sustained winds of 75 kph and moving westward at approximately 28kph.

Onamet advises the public to follow thebulletins it is issuing on the development of this storm over the next 24 to 36hours. Local conditions for the next 48 hours are affected by the influence ofa tropical depression over Haiti.
