Dominicans still lead NYC´s Hispanics-turned US citizens

Santo Domingo.-Dominican-born Latinos continue to lead the city´s Hispanics naturalized as UScitizens, as evidenced during the most recent ceremony to swear in new Americans,held at the New York Historical Society.

The event held tomark National Citizenship Day organized by the US Citizenship and ImmigrationServices (USCIS) on September 17, also honored the Constitution the UnitedStates.

Wilhelm Bierman, USState Dept. Information Service (USIS) assistantdirector in New York, stressed the oath´s importance to the 154 new citizens,including a majority of Dominicans.

"Passing theexams is very difficult, especially because of the language, but when we wantto, we can," said Dominican Cristabel Robles, 31, visibly glad forbecoming a US citizen.
