Doctors call of 3-day nationwide strike(Update)

Santo Domingo.- The health sector unions on Thursday agreed to call off thethree day walkout for next week, announced earlier today, after meeting formore than two hours with Public Health minister Altagracia Guzman.

The decision came after the guilds agreed to attend a meetingnext week with a commission of seniorgovernment officials.

FILED EARLIER. Dominican medical association (CMD) presidentWaldo Ariel Suero announced Thursday three days of nationwide walkouts in all publichospitals starting Tuesday, seeking a wage increase and other demands.

The announcement which comes just 19 days after the CMDended its previous strike, was made during a march to the Public Health Ministry,which the police has cordoned off.

It’s the medical guild’s seventh walkout of publichospitals thus far in 2016.

Public Health minister Altagracia Guzman tried to meet withCMD leaders shortly before 11am in front of Ministry headquarters in the CristoRey sector, but hundreds of doctors shouted "not in the street."

The demanded that the meeting take place inside the Health Ministryoffices.
