Electoral Board says international observers have started arriving

Santo Domingo.- The Central Electoral Board (JCE) on Thursdaysaid it has begun receiving the international observers of the May 15 generalelections, representing the South American Union of Nations (UNASUR) and theOrganization of American States (OAS).

It said the OAS delegation is expected to arrive today,while Unasur’s will start arriving Thursday afternoon.

Representatives from both organizations will accompany theJCE during the elections process to verify the legitimacy of the polling, with morethan 4 000 municipal and congressional posts and the presidency at stake.

In a statement, the JCE also announced that it beganprocessing names and data of the civil society representatives, including CitizenParticipation and the Institutionalism and Justice Foundation, who’ll be providedwith an ID as election observers.

It adds that the JCE will conduct the second test on the transmissionof results on Sunday and has distributed the names and other data of theindividuals who form part of the "databank of eligibles" to bepresent at polling stations across the country.
