Big business lauds Electoral Board’s decisions on vote-count

Santo Domingo.- The National Business Council (CONEP) on Wednesday said the Central Electoral Board’s (JCE)decisions leading to the May 15 general elections aim to provide transparencyand confidence in the polling process.

CONEP spokesman Rafael Paz said the JCE’s decisions seek toensure adequate levels of security which he affirms an electoral process requires,and also seek to maintain and ensure the agility which the vote-counting processrequires.

He said the political parties unanimously agreed to adoptan electronic counting system approved by the JCE, and the result of a processobserved by a multisector oversight commission formed by journalists, and civilsociety and business representatives.

Paz urged people to exercise their right to vote and the politicalparties to respect the sovereign decision arising out of the polls. "TheCONEP is committed to contribute to the transparency of the electoral processand adds to the joins the national and international observers who will monitorthe electoral process directly."
