British Gov. continues efforts to fight child porn

Santo Domingo.- TheBritish Embassy on Thursday announced the participation of a speaker at the FirstInternational Conference on Combating Child Pornography Online, under theleadership of Britain’s National Crime Agency (NCA).

The event being held until May 6 at the Justice Ministry isorganized by the Specialized Prosecutor against High Tech Crime (PEDATEC).

“Child pornography is an issue of particular interest tothe UK and will continue to seek areas of collaboration and where we can addvalue to local efforts,” the British Embassy said in an emailed statement.

“This time we have organized the presence of arepresentative of the recognized organization Child Rescue Coalition. Hispresentation will focus on the exchange of information by predators through theInternet,” it said, adding that it will also reveal how new technology is used- Child Protection System (CPS).

The mission said CPS allows the competent authorities toidentify the IP addresses of the computers involved in the distribution ofchild abuse images. “Later there will be a 3-day training program for officers ofthe National Police, of the National Investigations Dept. and Justice Ministryofficials. “Once training is completed, the Dominican Republic will receive itsown license to operate CPS technology.”
