Medina: Colombia-FARC pact leads to solving any conflict in the Americas

Santo Domingo.- President Danilo Medina on Thursday saidthe agreement reached between Colombia’s Government and the FARC guerrilla on adefinitive ceasefire, would lead to the solution of any conflict which mightemerge in the Americas.

"In the Ibero-American Summit of 2014 we agreed tomake Latin America and the Caribbean a zone of peace in the world. The conflictpending was the internal conflict in the Republic of Colombia," saidMedina, who is also president pro tempore of the Community of Latin American andCaribbean States (CELAC).

The agreement involves other regional and world leaders whowill witness the historic event, including the presidents of Chile and Norway.

Medina spoke at San Isidro Airbase prior to his 8:45amdeparture for Cuba where he’ll participate in the event to disclose the detailsof the agreement between Colombia and the FARC.
