Public Health declares war on mosquitos as deaths top 40

Santo Domingo.- Employees of the Health Ministry and of 41other government agencies will again from part of a national campaign toeliminate breeding sites of the mosquito Aedes Aegypti, blamed for 41 deaths sofar this year, as well afflicting more than 8,500 people.

Of the fatalities, 17 died from Guillain Barré Syndrome(GBS) associated with the Zika virus and 24 from dengue. 3,771 suspected Zika caseshave been reported and more than 4,700 of dengue.

Population Health Management director Jose Manuel Puellosaid there are 200 new Zika cases thus far, including 81 pregnant women and 13 GBS.

He said, the average age is 60 in deaths by the neurologicalsyndrome, whereas in the cases of dengue, they are minors.

Public Health said the fifth national campaign against the Zika,dengue and chikungunya vector mosquito will be launched starting 8am at the endof the 6 de Noviembre highway in San Cristobal. “The goal is to eliminate 200,000vector breeding sites and prioritize the most vulnerable sectors."
