Dominican Rep. gave funds to Clinton Foundation: The Washington Post

New York.- The Dominican Republic through its government figureson the list of countries which have donated funds to the Clinton Foundation,along with other countries which include Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Kuwait, Qatar,Oman, Australia and Norway, newspaper Washington Post revealed Monday.

If said foundation officials on Wednesday had disclosed that“the Clinton Foundation accepted millions of dollars from seven foreigngovernments during Hillary Rodham Clinton’s tenure as secretary of state,including one donation that violated its ethics agreement with the Obamaadministration.”

The outlet said most of the contributions were possiblebecause of exceptions written into the foundation’s 2008 agreement, whichincluded limits on foreign-government donations. “The agreement, reached beforeClinton’s nomination amid concerns that countries could use foundationdonations to gain favor with a Clinton-led State Department, allowedgovernments that had previously donated money to continue making contributionsat similar levels.”

The Washington Post reports that the new disclosures wereprovided in response to questions, which make clear that the 2008 agreement didnot prohibit foreign countries with interests before the U.S. government fromgiving money to the charity closely linked to the secretary of state.

“In one instance, foundation officials acknowledged theyshould have sought approval in 2010 from the State Department ethics office, asrequired by the agreement for new government donors, before accepting a US$500,000donation from the Algerian government,” the outlet said, adding that the moneywas given to assist with earthquake relief in Haiti, the foundation said.

“Other nations that donated included Australia, Norway andthe Dominican Republic,” it said, adding that among the most important donorsalso included Donald Trump, “one of the staunchest critics of the nomination ofMrs. Clinton.”
