The government has abandoned us: Sosua, Cabarete hoteliers

Sosúa, Dominican Republic.- The destination’s hoteliers saythe government has abandoned them since they don’t know when the promised workswill start, while those being worked on isn’t known when they’ll be finished.

The complaint most often heard among tourism sector leadersis against the government: We haven’t had the luck of other destinations, wherethe government’s hand has been felt generously with respect to theconstructions for economic and social development.

On May 24 representatives of the Cabarete Development Association(ADECA), the Association Hotels and Restaurants (Ashoresoca) and the Sosúa-CabareteSustainable Development Association (ADSS) in an open letter to presidentDanilo Medina, listed five priority projects to develop both communities.

Among the works requested figure the construction of a publichospital, a plaza for the town’s beach vendors,; the renovation of Cabarete’sdowntown, and completion of the water treatment plant.

“There must also be frontal attack against prostitutioninvolving Sosúa, which has overflowed,” the entities said, quoted byhoy.com.do.

ADSS directors Andrew G. Pastoriza, Loli Polanco Escaño,and David Ferreiras Jimenez and Humberto Pichardo of Ashoresoca, said the worksare needed to boost the tourism’s revival. "Our communities will attracttourists and investors, encourage the reopening of currently closed hotels andthe construction of new facilities of this kind.”
