Prior demands stall talks to approve law on political parties

Santo Domingo.- The talksamong the four major parties to agree on a Law of Political Parties has stalled over the requestfrom the opposition PRM party and backed by the PRSC party, to first restructurethe Central Electoral Board, the Superior Electoral Court and the Accounts Chamberby consensus.

A date has yet to be set for the next meeting between theruling PLD party, the PRM, the PRD of pro-government bloc, and the PRSC.

Another hurdle is that 18 of 22 minority parties met Saturdayto demand inclusion in the dialogue table, based on their attaining a 17.20% averageof the votes at all levels in the last elections.

A commission of those organizations are expected to meet Mondaywith dialogue coordinator monsignor Agripino Nunez.

In that regard, National Business Council (CONEP) presidentRafael Blanco said they’ve yet to receive the invitation to attend the dialoguecoordinated by Nuñez, president of the Economic and Social Council (END).

The PRM also proposed to include other political partieswhich competed with presidential candidacies, as well as civil societyorganizations.
