Medina, US Labor Secretary eye better wages for Dominicans

Santo Domingo.- President Danilo Medina on Wednesdayreceived United States Labor Secretary Thomas E. Perez in the National Palace wherethey discussed how to improve the standard of living and wages of Dominicans.

After the meeting Perez said that US-Dominican Republic relationshave always been strong, but even more now.

He reiterated that the nearly one hour meeting centered onhow to help improve wages in the Dominican Republic. "We spoke about howwe can work together to continue Dominican Republic’s economic progress, we spokeof the challenges that exist in the region near here and in the world."

Perez, who has Dominican ancestors, said it was importantfor him to hear Medina’s opinion on all topics now in the spotlight worldwide.

He stressed that he has worked with the Dominican Republicto improve the quality of life of Dominicans here and those living in theUnited States.

US ambassador James W. Brewster accompanied Perez andActing Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs, Mari CarmenAponte, the latter two were in the country to attend Medina’s inaugural.
