Doctors protest delayed wages

SantoDomingo.- A group of medical residents, led by Dominican Medical Association (CMD)president Waldo Ariel Suero, marchedfrom La Altagracia Maternity Hospital to the National Health Service officesTuesday morning, demanding the payment of their delayed wages.

Theyare also calling for the completion of remodeling works in the maternityhospital, which they say has been in a state of disrepair for three years.

Theysaid that three of the hospital’s operating theaters were closed because of thepoor conditions, which include leaking ceilings.

Waldo Ariel Suero told reporters that the government has not yetgiven a new date for the resumption of talks with the health workers’ union. The hospital strike underway in the eastern region hospitalswould continue until the government announces a new date for the resumption ofnegotiations, he said.
