The film “The Price of Sugar” has finally hit the New York Times with a review.

“It is narrated in calm, gravelly tones by Paul Newman,” says the reviewer, adding “Bill Haney’s muckraking documentary about Haitians lured,” and "his sojourn in the Dominican Republic began in 1997..."

Dominican Today invites the readers of The New York Times interested in knowing more about the controversial priest Christopher Hartley and the issue of Haitian sugar cane workers to use our search feature.

(The nonsensical title is an attempt to get the item "googled" right below the New York Times article)

It will be interesting to see a psychological profile of this individual, was he out in the bateye trying to convert to Christianity the Haitian that are not Christian or was he out there trying to take advantage of those poor people that because of there undocumented status could be easy target for unscrupulous individuals, why was he kick- out of the country by the archdiocese of San Pedro a move supported by the Vatican.

Food for thought for my previous Commentary: Most priest pedophiles abused boys (81%). Over 40% of the victims were between 11 and 14 years old. Most of the offenders were between 30 and 39, 20% were under 20, 23% over 40 and 17% over 50. Most abuse consisted of petting under clothes (57.3%), over clothes (56.8%), undressing the victim (27.5%), oral sex performed the priest (27.1%) and sexual intercourse (27.3%) or attempted sexual intercourse (25.1%).

Mrs. Rosa and Mr. Luis, Rafael it's only showing the hipocrisy of these priests when they talk about human rights violations when the institution that they serve have a veeeery long curriculum on that department. Haven't you about the crimes of the inquisition or the authorization that the Pope gave Hitler to start his pogroms against Jews? Don't you remember that it was the same Church which gave its benediction to slavery and profitted by it in the first place?

I'll agree that the church at times have been on the wrong side of morality but for every bad story, there are countless others of bravery and virtue, of spreading the faith, that the church has undertaken... Montesino and Bartolomeo de las Casa were priest during colonial times and even though the church benefited (Franciscan) from slavery of the Indians there were others who stood above the greed. The church should not be blamed for the acts of individuals

To the poster Rafael. Any proof that the priest Christopher Hartley was a pedophile? or are you just generalizing. Food for thought.
