Santo Domingo.- The Customs Agency (DGA) sent a statement by email Tuesday to announce public auction of more than 40 containers with more than 40 million pesos worth of merchandise…unfortunately the statement was received at 4 p.m.!

Dominican Today regrets having to publish the news a bit late for those who might otherwise had an interest in bidding on new appliances, fabrics, sewing machines and even motorcycles and bicycles.

So next time Dominican Customs (dga.gov.do) might send the email a bit earlier...

Please don't apologize, only the friends and relatives of government officials will hear of the auction before it happens.

That is the Dominican way.

Cronyisim lives in the DR.

Semiprivate auctions and semiprivate employment announcements are not restricted to the DR.

True, I am currious as to how the Govt. came to possess these goods as some one planning to relocate and set up infrastructure nessesary to have western standards in a 3rd world country, Is some customs worker going to decide he needs my ...whatever... more than I do ? where do the profits of these auctions go ? is this like the old "policemans ball" or what ?

Please, do they think we're stupid? that email was intended to be sent late. Anyway, why send an email? why not post it on the newspaper for EVERYONE to be aware that there will be an auction? That cargo was already bought and paid for at less than 10% its actual cost.

It is only for the friends and relatives of government officials will hear of the auction before it happens.
