Preliminary results tallied Wednesday night reveal that the Dominican Medical Association (CMD) has chosen a violent man as their new president.
The CMD’s first bulletin, with 72% of the ballots counted show that 4,689 votes (54%) are for the cardiologist Senén Caba, who recently punched an aged public hospital director several times in the head, during one of the guild’s frequent strikes and stoppages to demand a wage hike.
His opponent Enriquillo Matos, with 3,940 votes (46%), acknowledged his disadvantage, but vowed to challenge the results alleging irregularities, such as voting impediments he said jeopardized the balloting by military and resident doctors.
