Chico Mendes: "ecoterrorist" Definition in Collins English dictionary: a person who uses violence in order to achieve environmentalist aims.
Zoom Picture

I’ve known Arturo Villanueva since my start in the newspaper business in the early 1980s. His rise to the top of the country’s tourism industry is the result of his good sense, business acumen and most of all to his ‘nice guy’ attitude.

When editing the article on the uproar caused by the publication of the UNPD document which criticizes the country’s tourism industry for its handling of the surrounding areas of resorts, a lack of vision on the environment, among other points, I had to dig deeper because it was hard for me to believe that Villanueva would stoop to cliché name-calling when perhaps a more cool-headed approach is in order.

No one can question Dominican Today’s constant and firm support of the country’s tourism industry, but those who slam the term ‘ecoterrorist’ in the face of many who only seek to protect our natural treasures can also expect our rebuke.

Well said! What came out of that meeting should be taken as a position for debate and not as an attack on the government. It is wrong to call anybody an "ecoterrorist," especially if you're in government.

Please run for president.

But you will have to get rid of the old guard. Their sense of entitlement is beyond repulsive.

The UN is an easy target for the same reason that Activists'are more opposed to fur than leather - because it's safer to harass rich women than motorcycle gangs ...

Thank you for making this point very clear, al cesar lo del cesar...Enough cover ups, things need to change. This report should be taken as a prescription to heal the ailments of our industries. It's a shame that instead of embracing it and taking action to ameliorate what's wrong, we are going to be displayed as a bunch of ignorant baboons by the media in the rest of the world.
