I commend the Dominican Republic for implementing a new constitution which defends life "from conception to natural death."  The new constitution which outlaws abortion took effect on January 26.

Legalized abortion is a true disaster that has been unleashed throughout the world and is turning it into a planet of death. Abortion affects not only the unborn child, but also the mother who has conceived and all the people involved (i.e., the baby’s father, the grandparents, health care workers).

Since the legalization of abortion the population has been prematurely aging and is dying of sadness and despair.

Legalized abortion is a “right” protected by a false freedom that leads women to do violence against their own bodies. Psychologically, each one of these mothers will be wounded for life. They will succeed in removing “something” that today she finds bothersome, but she will not be able to remove from her mind and heart what she has done. To choose to extinguish in cold blood a life given by God, to reduce to dust and ashes the body of a human being made in His image and likeness, should make us shudder.

Science clearly tells us that full human life begins at conception with the formation of a genetically complete, self-directing human entity, the embryo. Life does not result from an organism when it has been built up, but the vital principle builds up the organism of its own body. Abortion, therefore, is in every circumstance, murder. 

Ultimately, those who support abortion cannot coherently answer the question why the right of the fetus not to be killed must yield to the right of individual freedom. When the law accepts that the rights of the weakest may be violated, it also accepts that the law of the jungle prevails over the rule of law.

When we begin to call even an embryonic human being a "thing" or a "clump of cells", progress becomes blind and destructive. The respect for every human life is an essential condition if a societal life worthy of the name is to be possible.

When man’s conscience loses respect for life as something sacred, he inevitably ends by losing his own identity. To claim the right to abortion and to recognize that right in law means to attribute to human freedom a perverse and evil significance: that of an absolute power over others and against others. This is the death of true freedom.

Ultimately, free will cannot be cited as justification for society to allow moral choices that strike at the most fundamental rights of others. The so-called “right” to abortion championed by feminists and abortion supporters ends up enslaving women because they are turned into instrument of sexual gratification. If the woman can abort without restrictions, the man is free of any responsibility as father, leaving the woman as his tool of sexual gratification in a position of “non-equality.”

Let us fight for life. Life is the future of man, never death.
