A new study from the School of Sport, Coaching and Exercise Science at the University of Lincoln finds that men over the age of 30 can benefit for being nagged by family and friends into being more physically active. Physical activity levels are a primary determining factor in the development of obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure and cancer.
A series of interviews conducted found that men reported that they needed, relied on and even appreciated regular reminders to do activities that created them to be more physically active. The pestering effects of a spouse and children may seem unwanted but in reality it improves men’s overall health.
The Benefits of Physical Activity
Regular physical activity is one of the most important things you can do for your health. It can help:
• Control your weight
• Reduce your risk of cardiovascular disease
• Reduce your risk for type 2 diabetes
• Reduce your risk of some cancers
• Strengthen your bones and muscles
• Improve your mental health and mood
• Improve your ability to do daily activities
• Increase your chances of living longer
Females have often been characterized as our “better half” as they commonly take better care of themselves physically and they statistically live longer. The benefits of physical activity through pestering will not only get one healthy but more productive as well. Productivity is often a measure of success, worth and value that has greater effects than just health.
Control Your Weight
Are you looking to lose weight and get fit? Both diet and physical activity play a critical role in controlling your weight. When it comes to weight management, people vary greatly in how much physical activity they need. You may need to be more active than others based on your age, your job and your current health situation. The first step is to develop an exercise program.
High intensity, short duration exercise has been found to be the most efficient and time saving form of exercise that will cause you lose weight and get fit in just minutes a day. This form of exercise has also been called surge training, circuit training and interval training.
This form of exercise is characterized by rapid fluctuations in your heart rate and has been shown to build lean muscle, burn fat, balance hormones and reduce your risk of heart disease. Physical activity is the most efficient way of reducing blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar.
Eliminate Type 2 Diabetes
Regular physical activity and nagging can reduce your risk of developing type 2 diabetes and will help lower blood sugar levels. Individuals that have type 2 diabetes commonly have too much fat around their waist, experience high blood pressure, high cholesterol and find themselves to be physically inactive. Your wife has you in her best interest after all.
Kill The Cancer
Physical activity has been shown to lower the risk of the two most deadly forms of cancer – colon and breast. The rates of these cancers diminish significantly with increased physical activity levels. High intensity, short duration exercise will strengthen one’s immune system that serves as the body’s cancer killer.
The good news is that the study suggests once you are active and healthy, you no longer need nagging. The suggestion that 'nagging is good' should only be applied to getting healthy and active as it improves your physical and mental health to be able to live longer with improved quality of life.

Perhaps if women nagged less, both men and women would get more healthy exercise, without even needing to get out of bed!
Where did these people get these 'facts' from?
A monkey cage in a zoo?
This is bogus miscellaneous propaganda. It's un-referenced, it's unfounded.
University of Lincoln? Where in Anytown USA? And their phone number is 555-1212.
Gimme a break! Stop posting Reader's Digest stories as FEATURES.
The "fact" bit is that exercise improves health. Duh! That is, men's heath, and women's and children's heath just as much. The "nagging" bit has nothing to do with it, or the study - it's just a way of making an obvious, boring article become controversial, and more attractive to nagging women.
It's like saying small heart-attacks are good for health, because they give people the incentive to stop smoking and reduce drinking.
The reality is, frequent nagging is detrimental to mental and physical health and is an indicator that the relationship is in deep trouble. Also washing the dishes, doing the laundry or vacuuming is hardly significant cardiovascular exercise, to have any effect on health.
Yes, just the kind of heading to suit trashy women's magazines, like "Eating chocolate is good for you" - because it contains antioxidants - (too bad about the obesity, tooth-decay and bad breath).
This is like saying hemorrhoids that grows in the butt is beneficial to the colon. Nagging improves your health , what hallucinogen drugs are they taking ?
