Miami, Fla.- Dominican superstar Juan Luis Guerra plans to record in Italian and Portuguese as well as in English. “I’ve given it a lot of thought,” said the singer-songwriter during a press interview. Juan Luis is about to release his new recording, “La llave de mi corazon” which includes two songs in English with Latin bachata, salsa and merengue rhythms.
The lead singer of the 4:40 group is in Miami to promote the new 13-track album which will be on sale from March 20. He is confident that the public will accept it as “one of the most romantic” of the 10 albums he has recorded in the last 20 years.
“We are going to places where no-one has ever heard of 4:40, like Japan, and some other Asian and European countries where not that many people have heard of us”.
The album includes the songs “Medicine for my soul” and “Something good”.
The former is the English version of the eponymous “La llave de mi corazón” which is a fusion of merengue, mambo, funk, hip-hop, blues and rock. “English opens a lot of doors to other markets”, said Guerra. “I would like this type of music to be well-known and that salsa and merengue become as popular in the U.S. and Asia as they are in Latin America”. Juan Luis Guerra is due to receive a Prize for Excellence and will sing “La llave de mi corazón” at the forthcoming “Lo Nuestro” awards ceremony.
