Good stuff Juan Luis. Gosh I wish we had more musicians like JLG. Merengue being produced now a days for the most part is trash.

It really has gotten boring in recent years, hasn't it? More musicians of greater artistic integrity would go a long way toward improving the situation. The false notes, the cookie cutter arrangements and instrumentation, and the dreadful production values of so much merengue has turned it into little more than background noise for TV shows and guaguas. Ask yourself what it is about Aventura that caused them to rise head and shoulders above other bachateros...the variety of their repertoire.

Arturo, I agree. Aventura has taken bachata to the next level. Even artists like Hector Acosta have done a great job with the Bachata genre. However, the level of quality in merengue is not rising. It sucks to see that the only Dominican artisit invited to the more prestigious awards is Juan Luis Guerra. I wish there were more.
