SANTO DOMINGO.- The actor and director Manny Perez was shooting the film "La Soga" (the rope) in his birthplace Baitoa, near Santiago (north) last year, when its original title was "El Hijo del Carnicero" (the son of the butcher), whose promo short makes it a thriller.
Diario Libre critic Alfonse Quiñonez says “the effort works, because it’s not a comedy, has hook elements such as violence and romance and as if this weren’t enough, Manny himself in the lead role.”
Perez is a veteran in Hollywood, and one of his latest roles in "Bella", won him the Alma prize in 2008. His talent can also be seen in "El Cantante", "Illegal Tender", "Pride & Glory", "Nothing Like The Holidays", "Yellow", "Amexicano", "Where God Left His Shoes" among others.
Also taking part in "La Soga," an original history by Perez, are the ex Miss Universe Denise Quiñones, and the Dominican actors Juan Fernandez and Alfonso Rodriguez.
“The action and suspension film is inspired by the likes of "City of God" and "Love’s a Bitch," Quiñonez says.
