Host?

She handed out one award. She didn't host.

I really love this girl and she was great on "mission impossible" and "guest who is coming".

I can not believe this, but anthony has spoken the truth, DT, i do not like the fact that you guys try to offend our intelligence by offering such exaggerations on your page. indeed she had a leading role handing out Globe Awards, but she did not host the show.

This could have been an honest mistake by stating that she hosted the show but I understand your point, this site is becoming far too persistent at making these exaggerated "honest mistakes." A credible news source should report the news as it is not as it can best appeal to it's readership.

Host or presenter is a semantical choice by the editor. For a headline, host is shorter and is an editors choice and maybe more adequate, if you "experts" bothered to read further it read "participated as a host" not "was the master of ceremonies". Maybe some of you armchair newspaper editor critics will like to offer DT to volunteer your services, instead of nagging all the time. After all how much do you pay for your subscription to DT by the way?
Zoe Saldaña is sweet and all Dominicans are very proud of her, her detractors that are complaining so loud happen NOT to be Dominicans, and just jealous of us.
Viva Zoe Saldaña and I do hope she gets the oscar, to make you guys madder than hell. LOL.

I mostly agree with generoso. More than one person can "participate as a host" to a show or ceremony. Although, I have to say "host" had me at first read. I guess it also could have read " participated in the ceremony to present .. ". But oh well. The point is ZS looks mighty hot and is super talented... she was brilliant in the Rom/Com Guess Who with Ashton Kutcher..

As a matter of fact the term co-host is used widely as well, the same with co-presenter. But the important thing is the essence of the communication offered, not nit picking and fault finding about a wiser semantical choice, the focus should be on Zoe and her wonderful and emotional performance
in "Avatar", I mean she had me when she first said "Hello".
Dominicans are damn proud of her and her accomplishments, and if somebody is jealous, well they have a right to be, many other women around the world would like to be in her shoes right now.

generoso, so you mean that because I pointed out to the editor that the information misrepresented her role, all of a sudden I am not Dominican. WOW, man you really have parasite swimming in your brain.

There is nothing wrong with reporting information that is clean and factual and that does not contain any content or context that might lead to a misrepresentation of the facts. You might want to learn that this practice if a taken lightly can go both ways, to help or hurt the person who is been reported about.

Your comments are very sad indeed. And i just wonder how many times you have exaggerated information that you come on here for the sake of making us look better or to help cure your ultra-nationalist disease. For your information, just feed me the plain truth, Generoso, good or bad, i really do not care as long as it is the truth based on facts.

I am very disappointed with little importance that some here give to accurate reporting.

Regarding your "Dominicaness" you mentioned a few days ago that you were a citizen of the USA, has that changed now? Please correct me if I was wrong, i want to be sure that the information is 100% accurate.
Maybe in your quest for self righteousness and "editorial correctness" you will find a space for compassion of an editor and newspaper staff, residents of the DR working a very stressed and unusual week with the Haiti disaster, nerve wracking aftershocks, very tired, and much overburdened, sometimes working on fumes only, as most Dominicans have been the past week.
Anyway looks like the editor corrected the article as it should have read.
We just have to be a little forgiving sometimes.

Dag,
I think you are confusing Zoe Saldana for Thandie Newton who was a featured actress in M.I. 2 and the Pursuit of Happiness. Zoe was in neither film although she looks very much like Thandie and a younger Jada Pinckett-Smith for which Zoe herself claims to have been mistaken for at times.

I will relate a real life event that is apropo:
During a congressional hearing live on many cable channels including Cspan, CNBC, Les Aspin (correct spelling,US rep, Sec. of defense) was questioning some high army brass, (superior officers) regarding some events prior or during the first gulf war. One of the generals or a coronel, I don't remember exactly now, brought up the fact as a corrective comment (he thought) that somebody had misspelled Les name in his name plate, as it read L. ASPIN, that was plainly visible to all, which was wrong of course, because the correct spelling is Aspin, not Aspen like the city in Colorado.
Did Les Aspin mock the general in live TV? Did he correct him? Did he make him look like an idiot?
None of the above.
Les Aspin just said thank you, smiled and went on with the meeting.
He showed compassion and overlooked that stupid mistake, and didn't make a big deal out of it.
Take your own interpretations, but I sure learned a big lesson.

Generoso, for your information, i never come on here questioning anyone's Dominicaness. On the other hand you have and it is not appreciated specially when you are talking to a person that migrated to the U.S. at the age 14 from Santiago. I know the pains of migration and the many days and nights of despair thinking about what was left behind. Yes, I am a proud American citizen who happens to be very productive and contributing in my receiving country.

Do not come one here capitalizing on the situation that is happening on the ground in order to sound like you had a point to begin with. it is very disingenuous on your part to highjack the current situation on the ground to justify your mistakes. WOW, you just do not stop surprising me, generoso. Be upfront and say that your emotions got the best of you and you misspoke and lets move on, instead you are now executing a classic CAP OUT, sad indeed.

So yes, you are more American than me. Does that make you happy?

No it doesn't make me happy, you must have meant I am more Dominican than you.
Zoe Saldaña is a Dominican icon, and a gifted actress as well as a sweet person, and I did not care for your statement agreeing with a known bigot as anthonyC who is always putting Dominicans down, with his strange taste for cynicism and mockery.
As far as having ultra-nationalist disease, then I am proud of that, I am sick and tired of people bad mouthing my country and anything Dominican any chance they get, and if you were really proud of your origin maybe you should have reworded your initial comments better, and also mentioned and taken into account were you came from.

General,
I think there is a great difference between a grammatical error and a contextual error as was the case in this article. I don't believe that it is wrong for anyone to make issue of any and all incorrect actualities that are not attributable to the subject. A contextual error can also cause someone harm so why not just bring clarity to the error so that the proper emendation can be made. There is nothing wrong in correcting mistakes from family members, friends or even editors, so I don't understand your attack of "armchair newspaper editor critics", "jealous" agendas or anti-Dominicanism. It was a little disconcerting to see you respond that way to be honest and anyone can disagree without there being anything more to it than just that.

Sorry Dag but do look up some images of Thandie Newton, Jada Pinckett-Smith and Zoe. Tell me they don't look very similar and beautiful of course. Sorry to give you this project but you should not be at all deflated because Zoe is just as beautiful as any actress in Hollywood with a world of talent so you can keep on drooling uninterupted. LOL

generoso, you are a really sad person indeed. At this point you are making very little sense and is simply throwing rice to the wall to see what sticks. I am amazed to that fact that because i noted AnthonyC's comment, even though I went out of my way to say that i could not believe that anthonyc was for once saying the truth in knowing how vitriol he can be, you still decided to go after me. If you missed that part, please scroll up and re-read my first post, which is the third one of the forum and them feel dumb when you see it.

I am not trying to satisfy your thirst for attention here generoso, but I will not let you get away with misinformation, which once again you are basing your argument on. If you are upset that i conceived the fact that anthonyc was right on something, so be it. At times even the worst of our enemies and adversaries need to be given credit when they are right.

I also remembered the error in the article regarding Judge Pineda that you so wisely corrected, and I had sent a "discreet" message to the editor regarding it, not highlighting the fact.
Maybe I overreacted this time then, mostly because of the previous reference by anthonyC, I happen to be a friend of the editor and we have all had a rough and forgettable nightmare this past week in the DR, with this Haitian disaster, and maybe my nerves are a little on edge.
Your comments are noted, thank you, your honor.LOL.

to be unpatriotic, then so be it. I am here to contribute a balance source of information free of emotions and blinding nationalism that will corrupt and infest my posting.

One thing that you need to remember is that facts in themselves are pure and only when we apply our interpretation and prejudices, they become weak and unreliable. If you do not care about maintaining the purity of information just because they contradict your national pride or prejudices, then you will never know the truth.

Moreover, thanks for bringing some sense into generoso, i hope that ends his failed and unfounded attack on my sense of nationalism and love for country, for being right after all. He today displayed some sort of unintelligent attack in my direction and I am not in the business of embarassing people. I believe that i made the same point you made about misinformation, it goes both ways and many tragedies and harm has been done for simple context on content as i indicated, but generoso, seems to have little interest in acknowledging such rules of writing.

If you like confrontation or have some strange paranoiac sense of a persecution complex, you can reread my original comments, and note that I did not mention your name of anyone else's name in them. Au contraire to my general comments, you resort to cheap street alley fighting techniques such as "parasite swimming in your brain", "I am a sad person", and btw is "thirst" for affection not "third" which is a typo and I won't make a big deal out of it.
Try to use your energies to be less confrontational and more constructive in your criticism.
Written by: dagtan, 18 Jan 2010 9:56 PM

generoso, indeed it is a typo and thanks for pointing that out, i will correct it ASAP.

We can leave it where it is, since it is clear that no agreeable state is going to be achieved on this particular point. I am the last person to try and confront people, since I do not have the need to do such things. i, on the other hand, will not tolerate anyone trying to bully me or trying to come here and command a degree of respect when they are for the most part simply spewing popularity with very little content of value.

If the comments were not directed at me, then it is all settled and lets move on. We all have lots to do and keep this great forum alive and well for the future membership. As always, i am always ready to have a fight as long as it is intelligent, it does not matter if it is nasty, but it must intelligent, otherwise, it is not worth fighting.

Take care sir, and thank you for your clarification.

The General offered that he overreacted which was a show of class. Let us return his gracious act by saying thank you and lets please move on. Everything has already been said, at least twice already. Let this thread continue to be about Ms. Saldana's appearance and presentation at the Golden Globes Award Ceremony and nothing else. Thank you both for the engagement and your time.

Kind of tough pill to swallow when somebody calls a spade a spade isn't it?

bigot definition
bigot (big'?t)
noun
a person who holds blindly and intolerantly to a particular creed, opinion, etc.
a narrow-minded, prejudiced person

I think this defines you pretty well mister and your constant vitriol: intolerant, narrow minded and prejudiced.

Can't wait to see what she'll wear for the Oscars. I wish her hair was up this time. The decolletage can be a beautiful thing. But she doesn't seem to always be on the super glitzy and glamour side of these couture gowns even though she's worn some great designers. At least she's not as low key as Joy Bryant. (Ay no maquillaje, no good even for the true beauties). But looks aside she is a really good actress. And she has a great sense of humor.
