Port-au-Prince. - Dominican music icon Juan Luis Guerra on Tuesday headed the groundbreaking for the construction of a children’s hospital, with US$2.5 million raised in a concert held in Santo Domingo with performances by Juanes, Miguel Bosé, Alejandro Sanz, Luis Fonsi and Enrique Iglesias in April.

The work will be built in an area of the Haitian capital’s oldest hospital, Saint Francois de Sales, partially destroyed by the January 12 earthquake.

The construction of the medical center began with a mass officiated by Port-au-Prince bishop monsignor Joseph Lafontant and Vatican Nuncio monsignor Bernardito Auza.

Dominican ambassador in Haiti, Rubén Silié, and that country’s representative in Santo Domingo, Fritz Cinéas attended the ceremonies.

Very good gestures on the part of these iconic music figures. This will help DR's reputation and image around the world. And more potential goodwill will add perhaps more international cookies down the road. Excellent work guys!

This demonstrates the true spirit of the Dominican people. Very benevolent.

Much needed for Haiti who lacks everything.

Lets send this message to all those countries that pledge to help Haiti after the quake but had failed to do so.
