New York.- The Hostos Dream Project (HDP) has the support of Dominican political leaders including Guillermo Linares, Mayra Linares and Albania Lopez, as well as backing from several companies and personalities such as Simon, Eisenberg & Baum, LLP; MJM Construction Services; AzulFire; the actress, model and author, Isabella Wall; the TV producer and author Marty Wall; the community activist and documentary filmmaker, Mercedes Jimenez Ramirez; the Bachata group Monchy & Nathalia and many other collaborators and advisors.
The non-profit organization HDP, in collaboration with the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT), are designing a green, sustainable, replicable model for school buildings, made out of shipping containers, in underserved school communities in Latin America, starting in the Dominican Republic.
It focuses on improving the quality of education, and environmental conservation within Latin America, starting in the Dominican Republic, is developing a new paradigm for primary and secondary education in the country, based on an inclusive education model, which will benefit all learners.
Students in NYIT’s School of Architecture and Design, under the guidance of Michele Bertomen, associate professor of architecture, are responsible for completing a site plan and prototype design for the first school being developed. Students will implement the design in collaboration with students and architects in the Dominican Republic.
