SANTO DOMINGO.- The physician and philanthropist Felix Antonio Cruz Jiminián and the investigative journalist Nuria Piera were chosen Man and Woman of the Year 2009 in the event sponsored by newspaper Diario Libre.
The jury tapped Cruz Jiminián for his permanent work with the poor and the aged in his clinic located in the impoverished barrio Cristo Rey, whereas Piera got the nod for her campaigns against government corruption and journalistic style, which has won the hearts of Dominicans.
Diario Libre editor-in-chief Adriano Miguel Tejada headed the jury, which includes Culture minister Jose Rafael Lantigua, Santo Domingo Catholic University director Ramon Alonso, the journalist Ines Aizpún, and the Man and Woman of the Year 2006, the philanthropist Melba Segura de Grullón and Marcos Diaz.
