Most of the candidates are from Santo Domingo. Their parents or patrons just rent a spot in another district to be able to qualify.

They do the same thing in most countries.

Ricardolito,

Good idea about the 35 and over. But the "no-bikini" rule doesn't cut it. It's a beauty Contest for Heaven's sake.

There are many beautiful women with eye-popping bodies aged 35 and over, so they will look very good in bikinis.

well I am most happy to be corrected ...I was merely thinking that today is the day of the woman and at that age they may not like us men having eyes like lobsters when they come on stage .

Ricardolito,

I'll let you on to a secret; women ALWAYS want men to have "eyes like lobsters when they come on stage." It's in the nature of the species.

Words of wisdom from my 90 plus year old Tio Jose from El Cibao.

I for one would prefer to see contestants under 35 not wearing a bikini (or anything else).

Interesting that the contestants in the photos with the article look like skinny Gringas - hardly representative of beautiful, curvy coffee-colored DR women!
