Second, gays in the Dominican Republic are still subject to constant discrimination which is mainly based on the conservative religious climate in the country and in the past there were closings of gay-bars by the police etc.
I believe this is one of the main-reasons for the parade, for them to show people that they are humans who like to party just like every other Dominican and that they are no children-eating monsters.
