New York.- The Rotary Club earlier this week celebrated its Holiday Party at Turkish Kitchen benefiting Sandy Relief. The event had been co-sponsored by our friends from the Ronald McDonald House and supported generously by the host of Turkish Kitchen Igor Peker.

We indulged in wonderfully prepared Turkish cuisine and enjoyed Rioja wines, which were donated by Carlos Bergantiños. Various program points included a fashion show of John Paul Ataker dresses arranged by Kerime Ataker and auctioneers by Col. Mike Powers.  The winning bids went to President Barbaros, President Elect Paul and Carlos.

Another highlight of the evening was our second check presentation by our Chair of  Trustees Jim Thompson to NY Downtown Chief of Hospital Jeff Menkes for a second and final payment for their new ambulance (total grant $150,000),  which will save lives in New York City while proudly displaying our New York Rotary logo.

We thanked our corporate members Fraternity Notre Dame represented by Sister Rene and the Ronald McDonald House, represented by Rick Martin for their consistently outstanding work in serving the sick and the poor. We are truly blessed to have these great members in our club.

In summary it was an evening full of fun, harmony and a great sense of camaraderie. We are still working on reconciling the financial success of this event, but we will have certainly raised several thousand of dollars benefiting our Sandy Relief Fund.

A heartfelt “Thank You” goes out to you for joining this event and for supporting it with your presence and/or in spirit. We appreciate it very much.

As well it was great honor to have Mr. José Luis Santoro, Mrs. Santoro, Mr. Gabriel Jiménez owner of Peravia Bank from Dominican Republic, both gentlemen became corporate members of the Club, sponsored by the Ambassador, Mr. José Carlos Bergantiños and Dr. and former General of Italian Army Giorgio Ballestieri. The Banco Peravia also made a donation to the victims of hurricane Sandy, such a great act of humankind, for the first time at the club.
