SANTO DOMINGO. - The Dominican film "Rey de Najayo" (King of Najayo), which starts showing March 1, is based in the life and death of the notorious gangster Rolando Florián Feliz, convicted of four murders and of trafficking tons of drugs.
The film’s director Fernando Báez on Wednesday said it will premiere the 28th in Santo Domingo and the 29th in Santiago.
"We’ve just arrived from Argentina to finish the post-production, we are now awaiting for the copies for the gala premiere and opening in the cinema. I believe the Lord awarded me when doing this film,” he said.
Manny Perez, born in Baitoa, Santiago, plays the lead role, together with the TV personalities Luz Garcia and Sergio Carlo. The cast also features Ibelka Ulerio, Alicia Ortega, Laura Garcia-Godoy and Vladimir Acevedo, among others.
Although Báez said the film "doesn’t seek to portray the life of the inmate who was convicted to serve time in Najayo on drug trafficking, it’s creative license inspired by real events,” it doesn’t look to stoke ill will.
