New York.- Dominican designer Oscar de la Renta’s career was at the center of kudos yesterday from the Fashion Institute’s Board of Couture, which awarded its top prize during an activity to launch New York Fashion Week, which starts today.
"For me it’s an honor to receive an award, especially for something I love to do. To me fashion is a passion, something that I’ve been doing for many years," de la Renta told Efe.
The designer received the award at a packed event in Lincoln Center’s David H. Koch theater from New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who called de la Renta "a legend" and a "close friend."
De la Renta, one of the most respected designers in the U.S., told Efe that despite his five decades in fashion, "I’m still learning, there’s still a new challenge" in his successful career, which has created a empire.
