Officials say no carcinogen detected in bread

Santo Domingo.- Since 2010 the content of flour and locally made and imported bread has been monitored in the Dominican Republic every year, and has yet to detect the presence of the carcinogen potassium bromide in any of those products.

The affirmation came Thursday from representatives of the Consumer Protection (Pro-Consumer), the Public Health Ministry’s Drugs, Pharmaceuticals and Food Dept., and the Customs agencies.

Representatives of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) also met with Public Health officials to discuss the complaint voiced Monday by the association of small and medium flour industries grouped in the UMPIH.
