Fighting for Democracy: Dominican World War II veterans

New York.- AntonioClaudio Martínez was born on September 7, 1926 in Santiago de los Caballeros,Dominican Republic. He migrated to the U.S. with his mother at the age of 6. Heenlisted in the U.S. Army in 1944.

On September 1, 1945,Martínez was deployed to the Asiatic Pacific Theater where he served until theend of the war. He graduated from Brooklyn Law School in 1956, practicedimmigration law, and subsequently joined the New York State Bar Association,becoming the first Dominican member.

Martínez succeeded insetting at least two legal precedents in the field of U.S. immigration law.
