Montecristi.- The water shortage crisis affecting more 60 communities for over eight months in the provinces of Montecristi, Valverde, Santiago and Santiago Rodriguez, is generating violent protests, while communitarian organizations have warned that if a solution is not immediately found to this problem, they will take to the streets on an indefinite strike.
Last Monday, some 12 communities in Monte Cristi blocked with tree trunks and other debris and burning tires, the roadway that links to Santiago and the border zone, in demand of tap water supply.
During the protests, violent confrontations among participants and members of the Police and the Armed Forces have taken place.
