Najayo, San Cristobal –United States Embassy Commercial attaché, Christopher Lambert and San Diego Padres legal adviser Jeremy Horowitz announced a donation of RD$1.2 million to help improve the quality of elementary education and to implement the program Espacios para crecer (spaces to grow) in Najayo.
This donation, to benefit more than 60 families in the communities near the Padres academy, through initiatives coordinated by the Dominican Integral Development Institute (IDDI), was channeled directly through the Dominican Development Alliance with the Major League Baseball (MLB-DDA) to the IDDI.
The program aims for children and adolescents to stay in the school through the creation of the “Spaces to grow” and improve the educators’ technical capacity in Najayo’s public schools.
The project also includes a supply of didactic material to the schools and equipment and materials to the libraries of the selected public schools to create reading corners. The San Diego Padres’ educative projects have the support of the American Chamber of Commerce and the foundation Sur Futuro.
The alliance will provide spaces for children and adolescents in those communities near the Academy, so they can continue their education in a funny and entertaining manner, before or after school hours.
Lambert stressed that the funds, the time and effort made for education are a good investment, and congratulated the Padres for their continuous community support for Najayo.
