Port-au-Prince.– Bill Clinton urged Americans to explore the riches of Haitian tourism on Friday as he took a VIP trip to a mountain palace and a nearby beach where a cruise ship pier is being built.

The appeal to tourists is part of the former U.S. president’s crusade to help the hemisphere’s poorest nation emerge from a cycle of poverty and instability, problems that helped destroyed a once thriving tourism industry here.

But his trip wasn’t one that many tourists can match. Escorted by local officials, Clinton flew by helicopter to the Sans Souci palace of Haiti’s 19th-century King Henri Christophe as U.N. peacekeepers and Haitian police guarded against disturbances in the nearby city of Milot.

The few tourists who come this way for now –mostly locally based aid workers or missionaries– struggle through the city’s traffic-jammed streets and negotiate serpentine, broken roads to reach the site, where they are accosted by desperate merchants selling souvenirs and mule rides to the nearby Citadelle Laferriere fortress.

“Think what a wonderful thing it would be if the transportation permitted every Haitian child to come here,” he said. “They would learn about the greatness of the country’s history.”

From: United States, FREEPORT,( The other Dominican Republic) Long Island....(We should be proud of our country not embarassed by it.)
It would be an embarrasment if the Hatian turn the table on us, Because of our government and our president are more interested in spending money the wrong way for there benifets. WHO NEEDS OVERPATHS, spend a million dollars a year for 64 years and create traffic enforcers now we'll have jobs and everone will be safe.MERTO we didn't nee no STINKIN METRO, we could have purchased NEW BUSes running on alternative fuels , create more jobs, MECHANICS,DRIVERS, ADMINISTRATION and SUPERVISORS for the DRIVERSE to be on time . This doesn't look good for our country. If we are not carefull our own will be crossing those borders to Hati for work. We might aswell get a COMPARE FOOD manager to run DR his job is to create work. Everyone loves WILLIAM CLINTON. They get Bill and we get Chavez we are working on the wrong relation. The US is going to help HATI just on spite(Chaves is the cause) What ever man!! Leo, in the US of A, there is a saying ,"BIRDS OF THE SAME FEATHER FLOCK TOGETHER"

Well well, boys and girls. It's nothing new. Remember since the U.S invaded Haiti in 1915 they have been on a crusade to distruct everything Haitian unless the American have some sort of interest ( example DR) Ever since they invaded the Islands under the pretense of protecting it from German influence, they have done nothing but destroying the infratructure of a sovereign nationif thins don't go the american way. In the early time Haiti sort disrespected washington by refusing to sign the "satisfactory protocols" relative to a convention with the United States on the model of the Dominican-American Convention. Secretary of Foreign Affairs, replied: "The Government of the Republic of Haiti would consider itself lax in its duty to the United States and to itself if it allowed the least doubt to exist of its irrevocable intention not to accept any control of the administration of Haitian affairs by a foreign Power."
Since things are so ba out there, they offered something that the Gov

Josean,
"Josean da Chosen" I was wondering when you would get off the CNN,NBC,ABC T.V and come back to reality and join us....
It's really nice to see the Liberals screw things up more. Liberals love pointing fingers and live in the past, it gives Liberals something to do.
Your numbers are shrinking why ?
Fox News is still rated number ONE why ?
When you come back too reality it may one day make SENSE.
LIBERALS...."If it fills good do it"...."Never mind the consequences"....."The PAY now or PAY later program".
Your beginning to sound like you should have been there in front of the Olympic Committee with your Prez.....Please remind Da Prez. to bring His one of many Protocompters for the next sales pitch...Hate to say this but...They rejected him in a Heart Beat and made him look stupid in front of the World, but you'll never hear or see that on CNN,ABC,NBC.
At least Fox News has more respect then that.
Mr. Prez don't forget about OUR TROOPS.
10% Unemployment=less TAXES.

There might be hope for Haiti. As I always say a better Haiti, a better DR. If jobs are created in Haiti, it will put an end to illegals coming into DR. There are some people in the private and public sectors in Haiti who prefer to have Haiti in chaos. They financially benefit from the chaos. Chaos means no competition from foreign companies or the Haitian diaspora. Some people do not want the Haitian diaspora to have dual citizenship because of fear of losing their position. If Haitians in power stop the selfishness, corruption, open up the country and allow the diaspora dual citizenship, ease of red tape for investments, and educate the poor masses, the country will change much quicker. There are slow progressive steps that are taking place. There are companies that are considering investing in Haiti and taking advantage of millions of unemployed people.
