MONTECRISTI, Dominican Republic.- President Leonel Fernandez yesterday handed out more than 17,000 boxes with foods to as many poor families of northwest Montecristi, Dajabón and Valverde provinces.
The activity began at noon, two hours after schedule in Montecristi, when the chief executive’s helicopter landed at Montecristi’s Osvaldo Virgil airport.
Fernandez headed straight to the barrio Francisco Javier, where he headed the delivery of the baskets full of foods and other basic items. He then visited the sectors Bella Vista, Las Flores, La Vigía, Salomón Jorge, San Fernando and Cruce de Copey.

Yes, I know, recipients couldn't care less where funds come from. For them, this is about satisfying hunger and carrying on with tradition of good Christmas meal and festivities.
My greater concern is that Dominicans, by nature, anoint those who give them something with greatness, then translate that to votes during elections. And, truly, do we really want Leonel or his wife for another four years? Think about it.
Please, no vote-buying with treasury money-it isn't yours!

You may believe what you want, but this all seems self-serving and propaganda to me. LF is a stool for those enriching themselves....he is a prostituted and willing sheep, selling the country in process and fully raiding the coffers.
There is no such thing as crime and punishment in DR, and no apparent criminal code. Seems as though most crimes such as heavy bank stealing, money laundering, political office abuses, etc, etc, etc, go unpunished; when punishment is meted out, it seems to be token punishment: three months in Najayo! We have a corrupt and broken system, with either no will or no way to fix it. Also, we have many men lacking testicular fortitude to take matters into their hands and correct the system-even if by force. Period.
In short, I believe this administration has done a great deal of pillaging and severely indebted us as a nation. On balance, they have done more harm than good, and clearly deserve to be punished for it.

Let's see, the 2010 plans are........2nd Stimulus, Health care, 300 billion USD a year for more troops in Afghanistan, unemployment, 2 more months extension of unemployment benefits, the calapse of Social Security, start of retirement [some early] of the baby boomers, Higher taxes, inflation, failed GM etc..etc..etc.. not to mention a 14 Trillion deficit and counting, sounds like were off to a great start for the coming year.

Forbes magazine is major exponent of trickle down economics a la Reaganomics. That is the economic model followed in the US for almost the last thirty years that has gotten the world in the economic pickle we are in now in, including the DR.
This model which the PLD and LIE-onel Fernandez have adopted as their own is responsible for the diminishing middle class in the US and the ever widening gap between the poor and the rich. Imagine what that neo-liberal economic model does to developing or pseudo developed countries that really never had a significant middle class to speak of.
Of course Forbes is going to give a positive spin to LIE-onel Fernandez (mis-) management of the economy. He is the classic neo-colonial head of state that opens up economic opportunity for wealthy foreigners

He has a 7 year old child out of wed lock and he is not supporting her emotinally or more importantly financially. This child deserves to be treated better and you have turned your back on her.
Leonel send him back to New York City so that the Family Court can deal with this character.
His inner circle has been advised that he has this child and they have not return calls to mediate this matter. Perhaps he wants to be embarrassed at a concert when he is served with court papers. ALL FOR NON PAYMENT OF CHILD SUPPORT.
