Santo Domingo.– Though the average need is for ten beds per unit, the Maternity and Infants Hospital San Lorenzo in Los Mina only has seven beds for intensive care maternity or pediatric patients.

Such a situation forces the hospital to sometimes refer patients to other hospitals in the National District. “The reason is the lack of space, pregnant women and children have to share the same area as emergency patients,” said the center's director Dr. Gregory Rivas.

According to Rivas, one solution could be the finishing of  the annex that was started 13 years ago, where there are areas for intensive care and the complete maternity equipment. “The construction restarts every year but the money needed to finish the job is never assigned,” he complained.

I just can't figure out, how poor people reproduce like "Guinnea Pigs".

I think that's where 3rd world countries are lacking in education, because in other areas they're well educated.

Apply law 2402 stricktly by the book, and bet you every single male will keep their "Zippers" close.

I foresee a problem of pandemic proportions in Santo Domingo;
The city has over-grown its limits. Just about everyone in the towns prefers to live in the Capital;
It's the cool thing to do in their minds; they rationalize, who wants to live in Sanchez, or Jimani? Yet, the infrastructure has not kept up with the demand.
This problem is compounded by lack of hospital beds, roads for evacuation in case of natural disasters or civil unrest. There are "Too may people living in such a small area"!
Not enough foresight has gone into planning for such conglomeration of people.....This isn't NYC, folks!

I was born in Maternidad in the 1950's!
And I wonder how many improvements or expansions have been made to it?

Well, I remember the old timers telling stories when "El Jefe", that it was required a sort of "Visa" to come to the city from the local mayor office. Only, funerals & family visits and if over staying your stay they will pick you up and beat you up.

Last time I visited DR, I was in shock. No long ago from Arroyo Hondo to the Isabela there was nothing, only pasture. Today, there is "Callejones" everywhere beyong Villa Mella.

And thats happening in each direction around santo Domingo. I believe once your president complaint about the people from the interior moving to the city.

As far I'm concern, they should "Gas" them all !!!!!!!

It's a fact, not a perception. Just read between the lines. Can you take a good guess? Where do almost 2 millions illegal Haitians go for free medical treatment and to give birth?
I give you 60 seconds to respond? tick, tick, tick, tick..............Sorry times up!!!!!!!

Guillermone I trust that youn will mobolize all your energy to elect someone who will not ignore this problem.
It seems that for this moment , this the least of Leonel 's concern.
Futhermore, you need to present the statistics and your fear to the Dominican peolple in a more constructive and forceful way so they can be aware of this problem so they can stop saying that crime is the number one concern
They main concern should be the two millions Haitians crossing the border each day to seek medical care and and to give birth.
This podium Dominican Today is just where angry Dominicans who can not influence the decisions taken over there , they post their faint voice , their desllusion and trade insults with Haitians.
Wait and you will be soon under attack from some pseudo Haitian Nationalists and I trust that you will repond in kind
Good Luck !!!!

Perception, when I wrote that South Miami,Harlem,Jersey City, Washingto Hieghts are crwoede I am gla you responded that thwey were crowed by immigrants but population explosion by the locals.
I wnder the use of big words has goten me confused.
What are the locals ?
The are the new immigrants who have displaced the sedentaries(Those born in these localities)\I haveasked whether we should GAS the immigrants, you have declined to answer.
What I hate with some of the posters in this forum they choose to answer questions they like and ignore questions they do not like.
Sometimes they answer questions that are not posed and ignore questions that are posed just to advance their agendas.
I will repeat my question and follow up.
Harlem,South Miami,Jersey City,Washington Heights are overcrowded , should we start GASSING PEOPLE there as you have recommemded to do in the Dominican Republic.?
Similar problem , similar solution !

Well, grass at the other side of the fence might look greener, but not always thats the case. People will always do better if stay at their origins and fight for a better life and change. Running its not the solution.

Perception,
I forgot to mention few other places in upstate New York that are equally over crowded:
Spring Valley,Havertraw,Nyack
Should we go ahead and gas the inhabitants _?

Seriously Perception ,You have became lately an expert in dodging questions which you think may be a trap to make post an ignorant comment that you my regret later

.
What is good for the geese is good for the gander !

If you trumpet to gas people who overcrowd certain places why not go ahead and gas all overcrowed cities and villages

You have been very careful and offer intelligent and etheric posts truffed with metaphors that can lend themselves to many different interpretations. And later if you are cornered , then you can say : Oh no this was not what I meant.

Perception , stop dancing around the question, cut the chase !

I believe that the country should go the way of Cuba in medical attention.
Universal health care and Josean No disrespect but, I have heard from creditable people that the hospitals maternity ward is being over whelmed be Haitians migrants.
Cuba has sent doctors to Venezuela to help the Venezuelans, even before I got in to socialism I would always hear about how good doctors in Cuba where.
While in one class taught by a Cuban, I Argentinean student also re affirmed this. That the student had family members fly to Cuba for medical attention.
