SANTO DOMINGO.- Singer-songwriter Juan Luis Guerra yesterday asked the authorities to pay more attention to the health and education. “I think these are two aspects that need to be taken into account. I say it because of the work the Foundation 4-40 does in the Robert Reid Cabral hospital. There we must work more on the children’s health.”
In press a conference in the hotel Embajador to provide details of his “Travesia” concert on Saint Valentines Day in the Olympic Stadium, Guerra also said he’s concerned with justice. “I want to mention what Solomon said regarding justice: ‘When the sentence of a crime isn’t executed immediately, the heart of the nation has the right to do evil."
The world-famous perfumer said he’s confident that despite the global crisis, it will be a good year for the country. “I believe that our leader is going to make the best decision. I believe that there is a solution and that we’re going to reach the goal.”

Speaking of "perfume and the poor"
Matthew 23: 8-13:
"This perfume could have been sold at a high price and the money given to the poor."
Aware of this, Jesus said to them, "Why are you bothering this woman? She has done a beautiful thing to me. The poor you will always have with you, but you will not always have me. When she poured this perfume on my body, she did it to prepare me for burial. I tell you the truth, wherever this gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her."

Juan B: I second that!
JLG:
That's an outstanding call; Perhaps, you might add to stop the cheating and stealing besides that. Now wouldn't that be the perfect suggestion coming from a man that most people 'respect'?
Perhaps, this is what you "were really called to do", not sing about love affairs, and trivialities!
The world is watching; You have the mike: Uno, dos, tres, probando! Can you hear the silence?

"He is doing something which is more that most of the influential or popular Dominicans are doing. "
Let me tell you something about my people that may sound harsh but it is the truth: When most Dominicans have more than two nickels to rub together they could give a damn about those less fortunate. I've seen it time and again, what was initially a humble person corrupted by the exagerated sense of superiority that money induces. The very guy that sat in front of the colmado swatting mosquitoes in the 80s would today drive by in his SUV and throw dust in the face of those that kept him company in his less fortunate days.

Goully, calling me a whiner is like labeling yourself a fascist... If that's too deep for you to understand, let me know and I'll spell it out for you--- I'll use small words and simple thoughts so you understand.

Texasshoe and Ciby,
You are both absolutely right. And texasshoe, your assessment about those that wear their work I.D.'s even after work to show off is not only 100% true, but I'll take it a step further by mentioning that sometimes when you're a professional Latino, it gets to the point that it's better to have a boss that's not Latino, because when you have one of your own kind they tend to really want to be a**holes with their own people just to show off or "prove" that they're better than you because they're the ones "in charge" of you. It's sickening I tell you.

I've learned that there are a couple of people that no matter how good and positive the news might be, they have to find a way to turn it into a negative... I will not waste my time mentioning those people. And there are one or two that can't stand the positive news, so they turn against those that might have something good to say.
Texasshoe, Rock on baby!!!
Ciby, you are a cool dude! I enjoy reading your posts sooooo much! Thank you! I feel proud of my Dominican people such as you.

Their are plenty of Dominicans who do good for their people. Dominicans who are real role models.
JLG is not one of him. He is a Limo Liberal who loves to stand in front of a micrphone and point fingers at others yet never looks in the mirror.
Back in the day before he was famous, he embezzled money from a group of promoters. 2 of them went out of business because of it. To this day he never made good.

First off, I believe what JLG is doing is great, and I believe he is one humble and very fine Dominican, of the sort we need more of. Kudos to the man!
I do not disagree with texasshoes’s statement on Latin cultures, though I believe this is not a peculiarity of Latin cultures alone. Though I will add that many of us domos out there once we get our hands on a little bit of dough we get ridiculous cocky (we grow hechones por un tubo y siete llaves, as the saying goes.)
On the carnet issue, I ride the train everyday and I see this thing happening with all sorts of people all the time, even the very professional looking types, and people of all cultures. I personally thought wearing a visible carnet was kind of ridiculous; but perhaps this is only me, and frankly, even though you or I might think it’s uncool, I cannot see anything exactly wrong with it. I have one which is required to open doors where I work and I never take it out of my wallet.

Here is a theory I once overheard someone say on this issue: most people that wear carnet outside of work actually come from ghettos. In the ghettos, most people don’t work. And it you do, you are a local celebrity, and desirable (i.e. you have some bucks, you are of the “good” kind.) So people see you wearing a carnet and they know that you are employed. You are the one!
