Santo Domingo.– The Missouri National Guard's 1140th Engineer Battalion, based in Cape Girardeau, is headed this weekend for the Dominican Republic to complete 18 projects in a month long mission.

On Friday afternoon the soldiers with the 1140th got the final briefing for their mission. "It's a real humanitarian type mission for us," said Lt. Colonel William Blaylock.

They're headed to the South Central and the South Eastern part of the Dominican Republic, areas that were heavily damaged by recent flooding and severe weather.

"It's very rewarding to go in and you see people that are more devastated, not nearly advantaged as we are and we can help them out while at the same time provide us the training we need to prepare for our missions," said Blaylock.

They tried this before, they went to Barahona and there was a large protest, I Know this very well; this is what really got me started in Dominican politics and the war of April 24, 1965. And the great Caamaño.

I was a member of the Army national guard at this time and I was very interested in joining the unite that was stationed in DR. I tried so hard to join the unite that was in Barahona, I would call and drive to see several commanding Officers.
The Engineers will do nothing that the Dominicans can not do them selves, I don’t want the U.S. or any foreign military on Dominican sovereign land.

And anyone that supports foreign military on their PATRIA, is a sellout and should kill them selves.

The U.S. always has ulterior motives for peace missions, but I don’t they want to invade Cuba. They already have Guantanamo Bay and a Treaty with Cuba.
What I really think they are doing is responding to the elections of El Salvador.

Politics always has an ulterior motive; you know that is right. Who really knows what they are up to or what they are doing in the DR hiding behind the facade of humanitarian mission. Since when does the military train their soldiers for humanitarian missions? The national guard usually performs valuable functions during the aftermaths of or when a natural disaster strikes within the US territory, that is part of their role. The same goes for the US coast guards, to protect our borders and maintain national security against foreign threats. But when that role is circumventend for other interests outside of the US border, I would question it. Let's leave it to charitable groups, non-profits, religious organizations, the peace corp or to vista volunteers to perform what they are intended to do and not the US military. They have no business on Dominican soil.

Guys, DR may be independent on papers, but we all know this is not true in practice. LF cannot get anything done without the approval of the international community (or has to stop from doing it if they don't approve). I think the country has been sold under the tables a long time ago.
The US only does these missions in strategic coastal areas, which may not necessarily be where most of the poverty is, and they're never even questioned.

I Thank the U.S. and the Southern Command for helping us rebuild and defend the Dominican coast and the border from drugs and illegal trafficking! In this type of help, the U.S. is always welcome!

About 18 projects are planned.

"Everything from road construction, some drainage missions, medical clinics, rehabbing schools, and building a sports complex," said Blaylock.

"I've been to Panama five times, Honduras twice, this is my 30th year and I'm getting out of the guard April 6th I retire," said Patterson.

Patteron is a local paramedic.

"We're going to be providing medical support for the engineers," said Patterson.

Weimer will help in the supply yard.

"We're going to a place where we can take a little of our luxury and hopefully give to the people down there," said Weimer.

"This is a good mission," said Lt. Colnel Blaylock. "This is a mission we do look forward to."

They'll be improving the quality of life for the Dominicans, while getting the soldiers ready for future operations.

Chilly. You are so ignorant. Almost every country allows foreign troops on their territory.

Even the US.

Did you know that Germany Maintains a Lufftwaffa traing Squadron in the US.
Many times Airforce units visit and train with their US conterparts.
Navy vessels from many nations make ports of call.
I even helped out when some Brazilian Sailors worked on a habitat for humanity house in Ft Lauderdale

Only an ignorant fool like you would turn down a helping hand for his country. Those soldiers are doing the DR a great Honor.

Honor is something you know nothing about.
