Washington.– Haiti and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) said they would convene an international donors conference for the tiny poverty-wracked nation in Washington on Tuesday, April 14.

"The conference will focus the international community's support on priority projects in the Haitian government's economic recovery plan, a two-year program aimed at generating 150,000 jobs," the IDB and the Haitian government said in a joint statement.

Haitian Prime Minister Michele Pierre-Louis, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will be among the participants, the statement said.

The poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, Haiti is facing a serious economic crisis that led to bloody food riots last year. Haitian President Rene Preval has forecast a difficult 2009 amid the global financial downturn.

150,000 jobs for a country of 9 million is not a whole lot but I guess you have to start somewhere.

I have said many times that all these Law maker and UN phony stories are all just BS talk there is no intentions on helping Haiti anywhere. All the masterminds of the world have been planning on helping Haiti for so long yet never go beyond planning. Hey i can tell you what they need without a single day of planning needed they need food, education and a stable gov. all others will follow. So please enought planning and studying Haiti and get some s--- done. alreadyIf they need to know something extra about Haiti please just make a phone call don't waste another tax dollar on another damm planning session. instead send that money into Haiti. They acting as if Haiti went broke last year. Diablo esto parece el cuento de el conejo y la tortuga que fue al colmado.seis meses depues si me ataca no voy.

First STOP HAITI'S EXPLOSIVE DEMOGRAPHIC GROWTH! Of the 9.4 million people in Haiti, 5.6 million are CHILDREN!!!!!!! You can not move forward when more than half of your population is CHILDREN (lots of hungry mouths that can not produce!).

Be grateful, right now there are 4 millions Haitian or former Haitian (1 million in the U.S., 1 million in France/Canada, 2 million in DR, and the rest in the Caribbean like 300,000 in Cuba) living abroad receiving sustenance in foreign countries!

We can not send money directly to a corrupt Government or a disrupted social infrastructure! That will go to the pocket of the abusers!

MINUSTAH has kept the peace in Haiti. Just recently the pro-Aristide forces protested in Port of Pig and they are known to be troublemakers and MINUSTAH was able to contain their intentions. Also the former Army members or the gangs have been contained by MINUSTAH!

What I do not understand is why the UN and other donors do not send a 5 year supply of condoms to Haiti, together with a group of doctors to perform vasectomies, and tubal ligations. Because as we speak, 9 millions babies are being made in Haiti.
China had a great success in controlling overpopulation resulting in decrease of poverty among the poorer Chinese.

Hi guys I m back, I m agree with letrou, Haiti is the poorest country of America, we import more products than DR and export not much, I think if the HT gvt use the aid on roads and agro project, we ll import less and export more, this will reduce the insecurity and there will be more tourist and more work equal more money less poverty, better education, health, and so on....................

China's "great success" in controlling over population resulted in the death of millions of baby girls. I don't call that success.
