Santo Domingo.- Central Electoral Board president Julio Cesar Castaños met Monday morning with Kerry Kennedy, of the States United Robert Kennedy Memorial Center for Human Rights, and with Sonia Pierre, head of the Dominican-Haitian Women Movement (MUHDA), to speak about the situation of the Haitian immigrants who reside in the country.
After the meeting Castaños said Kennedy and Pierre expressed their concern with the plight of the aged undocumented Haitians who live in the country and since they have no documents cannot return to theirs
The official said they stressed the fact that the JCE is questioning the identity documents which have been issued to the Haitian immigrants, whose mothers reportedly were provided an ID by the State Sugar Council (CEA).
Castaños said the JCE won't be pressured by those who seek to legalize the undocumented foreigners, and noted that Kennedy's delegation doesn’t want to issue statements until after they meet with president Leonel Fernandez.
Kerry Kennedy is the daughter of Robert Kennedy, slain during his bid for the Democratic Party’s Presidential candidacy.
